Chevrolet has officiallyexported its muscle from Detroit to the other side of the Atlantic. The best-selling muscle car of the past couple of years, the Camaro, is now available from United Kingdom dealerships in both Coupe and Convertible. It also seems to be priced quite well for what it provides.

Starting at £34 995(R424 527) for the SS Coupe, Camaro is going for the jugular here, if you consider that a current BMW 330i Coupe goes for £35 045 (R425 134) in the UK. The Convertible is priced from £39 995 (R485 183).

Only the top dog V8is being made available, so no entry-level V6 at all at introduction. The 6.2-litre V8 produces 318kW (569Nm) and 298kW (556Nm) when mated with the 6-speed manual or the 6-speed automatic respectively. The manual has a claimed average fuel consumption of 14.1 litres per 100km (20 MPG) while the auto returns 13.1 l/100km (21.5 MPG)

In addition to the standard models, Chevrolet is also offering, for a limited time only, the 2012 45th Anniversary Camaro, finished in striking Carbon Flash Black with bespoke red and silver anniversary stripes, dark silver 20-inch alloys, a unique 45th anniversary leather interior with red, white and blue stitching and a one-off white-backed instrument panel. It’s priced at £36 495 (R442 724) for the Coupe or £41 495 (R503 379) for the Convertible.

We aren’t too sure if the car will pick up enough favour with UK customers who’ve watched their American counterparts driving the car for about two years now. Also, that it doesn’t come with a British-flavoured diesel will also count against it.
