VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT ALLTRACK GOES ANYWHERE

Audi has the allroadrange, and now Volkswagen has the Alltrack. Based on the Passat Estate, the Alltrack stands taller than a normal wagon and features a number of rugged parts in order to cope with light off-road situations. VW says it is for people who require something spacious with bits of non-too-serious bundu bashing.

The Alltrack features new SUV-style bumpers, greater approach and departure angles, a higher ground clearance and side sill flares. Obviously not for serious gung-hobush trips, the Alltrack does offer some elevatedsitting for occupants.

Engines are off the same production line as other current VWs, meaning 118kW and 155kW TSI petrols, as well as 103kW and 125kW TDI models. VW’s 4Motionall-wheel-drive (AWD) is only standard with the 125kW TDI and 155kW TSI where it’s coupled with a DSGgearbox.

Alltrack will have its world debut at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show next month. VW SA is highly unlikely to offer this model to the wagon-shy Mzansi public.
