With July 2011 global sales of 108 721 units, BMW has maintained its place atop the premium pile, at while at the same time reporting record sales for the month. The company has never sold as many cars in July before as it piped Audi to second place and Mercedes-Benz remains at bronze level.

Star performers in the BMW Group include the new X3 whose sales rose an astonishing 193.2% to 9763 cars. With the new engines already announced, X3 will only gain in customer acceptance. Other crack sellers are the X5, 5 Series and X1. In 2012 the brand new 3 Series comes out. Audi was pretty close with 106 000 units pushed, while Mercedes-Benz finds itself in unfamiliar third place territory with 100 391.
