Saudi Arabia king Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saudhas overturned a court decision that would have seen a woman lashed/ whipped10 times for driving. The king’s decision to stop the lashing was quite a surprise and will surely have far-reachingimplications for all the Saudi women who want to start driving cars themselves.

Interestingly it was only a few days ago that king Abdullah announced he was giving his country’s women the right to vote, for the first time ever. They will even be able to stand as candidates at the next municipal elections in 2015! Perhaps there is a different broom sweeping the oil-rich Middle Eastern country?
