MINI South Africa has listed the MINI One on its official website, and the price is quoted at R197 401, making the One the cheapest new MINI in the land. The car has not been launched in the country yet, so we cannot say exactly when it will be available. The assumption is, since it’s on the site, it’s at the dealer. Of course we may be wrong but check with your dealer anyway.

The car is nevertheless, a very basic rendition of MINI, powered by the same 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine. It makes 72kW at 6000rpm and 153Nm at 3000rpm. The 40 litre tank is said to be able to return a combined fuel consumption figure of 5.4 litres per 100km, while the 0 – 100km/h sprint is claimed at 10.5 seconds.

This is a real entry-level MINI, and going through the spec sheet reveals very little in the way of features you may be used to for the brand. Standard items include air conditioning, a CD player with radio functionality and ABS braking, while options are quite long, including xenon headlights and automatic climate control.
